Façon de Venise Glass

This façon de Venise glass goblet from a private collection was missing a part of the blue glass wing decoration along the stem. A silicone mould was made of the existing wing decoration and a replica was cast in tinted epoxy resin to be used as a fill for the missing decoration.

Ceramic Mask Sculpture

Ceramic mask sculpture by Seline de Teixeira d’Andrade, the second wife of ceramicist Bert Nienhuis, made in 1921. The ceramic had suffered previous damage resulting in the nose breaking off and a loss on the back of the head. The old adhesive used to glue the nose back onto the object was removed. The nose was then re-adhered with Paraloid B-72 and the losses were filled and retouched.

Plaster Bust

Cast plaster bust (ca. 1981) of a woman mounted on a wooden base by J. van den Brink. The sculpture had a detached head and surface soiling. The soiling was removed with dry cleaning methods and the head was re=attached with Paraloid B-72. Structural and aesthetic fills were made along the neckline and and missing areas on the face.

Gra Rueb Woudaapje Figure

A ceramic woudaapje figure by Gra Rueb (active 1912-1969) with a small loss on the tip of the beak. A detachable fill was made using Milliput epoxy putty. The epoxy putty was sculpted into the form of the missing beak using photo references of a similar ceramic sculpture. The fill was adhered to the ceramic with Paraloid B-72 and retouched with Golden Artist’s Colors.

Porcelain Oil Lamp

A porcelain oil lamp that was broken at the base of the lamp causing a large loss with several shards and a missing area. A detachable fill was made for the loss using a tinted and bulked epoxy resin. The fragments and fill were adhered using Araldite 2020 epoxy resin and a Paraloid B-72 barrier layer. The fill was retouched with Golden Artist’s Colors both by brush and airbrush.
